Bristol Blogroll

Bristol has an active community of bloggers, picking apart the minutiae of local people and events. Laughs, gasps and groans await as you visit some of Bristol's finest wags:

  • Bristol Animal Rights Collective also available in colour at www.myspace.com/bristolanimalrights
This site just recently started up in May 2007 with a call to arms to stop sales of fois gras. More recently attention has turned to a pub with crocodile on the menu (let's name and shame, yes, according the Collective, it's the Three Sugar Loaves on Christmas Steps)
  • The Bristol Blogger is a no-holds-barred commentary on the corruption, greed and plain stupidity of some of our local wanabees. Compulsive reading.
  • Anarchist606 sees the evil police state in action everywhere, from Al Quaeda to Ashton Court. Warning - this site could increase stress
  • Bristol Wireless News is 'in your aerial'. Ha,ha. Bristol geeks, don't you just love 'em? Now in it's 6th year, Bristol Wireless is a co-operative set up to develop a free-to-access broadband intranet using radio, with the emphasis on supplying ICT (Information and Communication Technologies) that are relevant, permanent and affordable to communities that find themselves on the wrong side of the digital divide.
  • People's Republic of Stokes Croft
Not exactly a blog, more a call to arms for all local street artists to defend and improve the Stokes Croft environment by providing a visual list of sites that prsc deem to be worthy of attention.
    In their own words:
Stokes Croft is the most interesting and culturally diverse area in Bristol, boasting more honesty, beauty and truth than any other part of the City. It is precisely because Stokes Croft has been neglected, that people of all backgrounds and circumstance have learned to co-exist in an enclave of tolerance that few from outside this magical area can begin to understand.

The mission is to help Stokes Croft to recognise its special qualities by improving the streetscape through direct action, by creating a sense of identity,
a sense of belonging and of self-worth.
PRSC is determined to safeguard the unique character of the area.

Because of the economically challenged nature of Stokes Croft, there are many areas where there are gaps in the normal commercial landscape. This can be seen as a disadvantage, a gap- toothed smile. PRSC sees only opportunity, the opportunity to flavour forever the visual nature of our quarter. More stimulating. Tidier. Safer. Better. Opportunity.

Our modus operandi is to work with the nature of the environment... To improve through painting... Never to damage any of the fabric of the area.
