Walking on Sand Point

Sand Point is an SSSI and also National Trust property. NT provide a nice pdf of the Coastal Walk

At the top (where the os trig point is) are the remains of a bowl barrow and, slightly to the east, the remains of a disc barrow. Disc barrows are apparently unusual; there are only a couple of hundred in the country, most in Wessex. Other, more recent, earthworks are of a motte and bailey castle.
The beaches at Middle Hope to the east of Sand Point were frequently used for landing contraband. More info on smuggling

A considerable time before all this human activity, during the Carboniferous period, underwater volcanoes buried all life forms and preserved them in the rocks now exposed on the foreshore and cliff. Corals, Bryozoans, Algae, Bivalves and Brachiopods can be found here. More info on fossils

And if you're into birdwatching this is an excellent migration watchpoint where early Wheatears and Ring Ouzels can be found, together with passage hirundines (swallows and martins)and warblers.
