Sea Train 1st album A&M 1969 re-released on Edsel EDCD 676

And lo, out of the Blues Project came Sea Train. They made one album on A&M in 1969, this one, and promptly metamorphosed into the similarly named Seatrain. Apparently this 1st album didn't sell too many copies. I guess I was one of the few then that did buy it. Like so many of my record choices of the time, it was by recommendation from none other than John Peel. I think he said it was "quite good", which was good enough for me. Of course, he then played something that isn't on this album at all called Nairt Aes by the Blues Project, which is Sea Train backwards and by then was pretty much the same band. It was/is a fine track from the Planned Obsolescence album. As soon as I had awoken from my reverie, I immediately put on my loons and paisley shirt and trucked on down to my local HMV store in Slough to place an order. Within a few weeks it was mine, soon to became a personal favourite. Oh, those were the days, my friend :)
This album ranks alongside Family's Music in a Dolls House, Quicksilver's Happy Trails, Steve Miller's Sailor; all classic albums of the time. It's an eclectic mix of classical, country, jazz and psych-fuzz-rock styles that is fragile and inventive and still sounds "quite good".

Update 25-Jun-2007: I'm occasionally compelled to buy Record Collector and this month it was due to being the 40th Anniversary of Sgt.Pepper. I don't know why it is, stick a pic of the Beatles from '67 on the cover and I'm hooked. Actually , I do know. The day that Sgt Pepper was released, the world changed from shades of gray to living colour.
Anyway, it seems I'd missed an appreciation of Sea Train's 1st album, as there were several letters extolling the virtues of said album, each writer feeling they were in a minority of one in their admiration of the A&M version. Though I'll probably never know them, they are now dear friends.
